Trust the Process – Spring Giving Campaign 2023

Slow and steady, that has been what we keep telling ourselves. Since our official founding last year we have been telling the story of this clinic and the amazing team that runs it. The situation is representative of what most of the world deals with on a daily basis. Getting access to quality healthcare anywhere is very challenging. But in remote regions of the world such as the Kapchorwa District of Uganda, it is a daily uphill battle.

That is why we are investing in the potential of these clinicians and this community. At the beginning of March we gave our process a shot and it worked. Every new thing that gets going will have some bumps in the road, but at the end of the day it really worked. We weren’t surprised that it did – we had trust in our colleagues on the other side of the world.

Kiti received a transfer of donations and went to Mbale and Kampala and purchased new equipment for the clinic. He bought an oxygen concentrator which can generate up to 5 liters of oxygen. This can make a big difference to a sick person and this piece of equipment is something that they have never had before. A new exam table and exam light were purchased.  This will help Timothy while he is performing procedures, giving his talented hands the best shot at success. A centrifuge was purchased as well. Coupled with the new microscope from 2022, this completes a basic laboratory set up. Allowing for samples to be spun down and then viewed under the trained eye of Kevo the laboratory assistant. They want to make the right diagnosis. They want to offer their community the very best.

An additional cache of commonly used medications were procured to stock up the active pharmacy.

Kiti had a brilliant idea with the remaining funds. Develop a “new mother” gift bag that contains some hygiene and other supplies to make the transition to home with a newborn more manageable.  This is such a kind gesture for their patients. Our hope is that this becomes the standard procedure at discharge from the maternity ward.

Outside of minimal administrative fees, all of the money we have raised has goes to sustainable, thought out projects and investments that will directly impact the quality of life around the clinic. Our pledge is to continue this pattern of giving. As we continue to raise funds, we will look into more sustainable projects alongside our Ugandan team and together we will take them on!  We certainly need more help though. One aspect that means so much to me, is that because this is such a focused project, the benefits of giving are very obvious. I feel connected to where my donations have gone, and that is important. We want you to feel the same way, to be sure that whatever you give, you know that is going to make a positive change in the lives of many people who might now otherwise have been helped.
