For over twenty years the Kaserem Christian Medical Clinic has been there to offer care at all hours of the day with limited staff and supplies. Some of the clinic team live on the grounds full time in a small structure nearby. They care for the critically ill and stabilize life threatening emergencies. Patients are admitted and cared for with compassion, but very little resources. They provide primary care, pediatric, women’s health, and preventative care as well as health education. They offer spiritual support to the weary.

A child is born in the maternity ward almost daily.

Nearly twenty years ago, one of our founders, Ben King, had the chance to visit this place. At the time, it was in a bad state. There is poverty and endemic diseases, and the clinic was mismanaged. New leadership came in, and this new team brought some integrity and dedication. The clinic is African managed and led and they have a unique vision for their future that we want to help them achieve. Our founders experience at this clinic would inspire him to serve his country and community as a medic and then as a physician assistant. And now we are honored to be able to give back and support this clinic - and others like it in the future.

The remarkable skilled and compassionate team here serves this population with a smile. But this is hard work - and they face so many challenges. And then there was the pandemic. Structural improvements, medical supply and device procurement, and staff retention are looming problems. Solutions are not easy to come by in rural Uganda, let alone our own hometowns. But they aren’t giving up on their community. Coupled with monthly increases in volume and patient complexity - now is the time to act and to help. Together, with just a little we can take some of the pressure off. With just a little more, we can help them change the delivery of healthcare in their country.

Kaserem Futures has been on the ground, working with the clinic leadership and team-members to identify specific issues and find solutions. Help us solve these problems through focused sustainable projects that will enhance this clinics ability to make a positive impact on all people in community it faithfully serves.
